The Recovery Through Rights Project is a partnership project between North East Law Centre and the Recovery College Collective (ReCoCo) Newcastle.
What is the Recovery Through Rights Project?
The Recovery Through Rights Project seeks to:
Test how legal and human rights based approaches could improve outcomes for people experiencing mental distress.
Eliminate significant barriers facing service users and their rights in the mental health, welfare benefits and general health and social care systems.
Develop a resource based within ReCoCo for legal advice, action, education and awareness raising, with a goal of service users taking on a peer support.
How is this project accessed?
Our welfare benefits caseworker Rachel works closely with the Recovery College Collective in their Recovery Through Rights Project. Referrals for this project are made by ReCoco, though once permitted the weekly drop-in will be back up and running on a Wednesday between 10:00am and 12:00pm. This project gives the opportunity for people to ask about benefits, seek one off and casework support and issues around disability and illness benefits such as the rules around permitted work within ESA.
